20-year-old Michał “Miszel” Szpak from Jasło, leader of the Whiplash band is a mix of original style and amazing voice. He decided to present both during auditioning for the new TVN’s X Factor show. He managed to impress the jury. He shared his fresh insights related the reactions to the performance published on the internet a few days ago in an interview with Jaslo.net reporter, Przemysław Janas

Przemysław Janas: Why did you choose a song from Czesław Niemen’s repertoire?
Michał Szpak: I chose the song because I’ve sung it before and besides it’s every singer’s challenge which gives adrenaline while awaiting others’ opinions.

What were the preparations like for the new show’s auditions which is coming to the screens on March 6?
M.Sz: MMy preparations for the performance focused more on what to wear than on what to sing, because I have already practiced “Dziwny jest ten Świat” a few times. I also focused on finding the instrumental version of this song and on other details related to the visual aspect.

How does it feel when your performance is being watched by the whole country and not just your hometown or friends?
M.Sz: I didn’t notice any difference, after all, people live everywhere, so whether they are watching me in Jasło or in other major cities, it makes no difference to me.
How do you interpret comments about your style?
M.Sz: I have long stopped worrying about what people write about me. I had been creating my image for several years.

A few hours after the audition material was published, you found yourself all over the largest internet sites. Do you feel like a star because of it?
M.Sz: No, I do not feel like a star under any circumstances. A few websites will not make me a star, I can only feel honored, but I certainly do not feel like a star.

During the audition, one of the jurors said that only one record was missing from his collection; yours. What do you say to that?
M.Sz: What Kuba Wojewodzki said was something special, when I record my CD, I will give it to him personally.

Was auditioning for X-Factor your debut?
M.Sz: Participating in the new TVN show was the first music show in which I performed. I was waiting for something like this in our country because I did not want to compete with circus performers or little girls who win because they want to buy a new home. I could just as well say that my parents cannot afford a new home and I am asking you to help me realize their dreams … It’s obvious … I do not want to become someone who wins out of pity but someone who just wants to fulfill myself.
